3 Easy Steps for Keeping Your Pet Safe in Emergencies
1. Prepare: Food and water - 3 day supply, pet medications & medical records in waterproof container, pet first aid kit, collar, harness or leash with ID tag, crate or other pet carrier and sanitation items: litter, paper towels, trash bags, newspapers, bleach. Have all pets microchipped and registered.
2. Plan: Create a plan to get away and where you will go; Develop a buddy system to care for your pets if you are unable to and determine a meeting spot; Talk to your veterinarian to keep contact info up to date in recovery database; Compile contact information: vet hospitals and places you may take shelter with pets; Obtain "Pets Inside" stickers and place on doors and windows.
